Colombo, Mar 26(ANI): Pakistan have equalled Australia's record of reaching the World Cup semi-finals six times.

Pakistan achieved this feat after registering a thumping ten-wicket win over the West Indies in Dhaka in the first of four quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Earlier, the record of playing the World Cup semi-finals six times was held only by Australia, which has lifted the coveted trophy four times.

However, Australia could not reach the World Cup semi-finals for the seventh time as India shattered their dream of winning the fourth consecutive title in the mega event.

Pakistan are set to encounter arch rivals India in the semi-final stage at Mohali on March 30 as the co-hosts beat Australia by five wickets in Thursday's quarterfinal in Ahmedabad.ndia and New Zealand have reached the semi-final stage for the fifth time while England have already played the semi-finals five times, Geo TV reports.

West Indies have won the World Cup twice, but have played the semi-finals only for four times.

South Africa and Sri Lanka have reached this stage three times, and Kenya also joined the last-four slot once in the World Cup. (ANI)
