Bishnoi contradicts Somnath on resignation issue

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 IANS

Chandigarh, Oct 2 (IANS) Kuldeep Bishnoi, a former parliamentarian suspended from the Congress, Thursday expressed surprise over Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's statement that Bishnoi's resignation letter had not reached him.

Bishnoi, who last year floated the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) party after being suspended by the Congress, told reporters Thursday that he was surprised at the statement by Chatterjee.

The Lok Sabha Speaker said here last week that Bishnoi's resignation letter, written in December last year, never reached him.

'It was really disheartening for me when Somnath Chatterjee gave the statement that he has not received my resignation. He must have said this under some political pressure. Only a few days back, he had refused to comment on my resignation issue,' said Bishnoi.

'Any political leader of any party or any journalist can approach me and I can prove the authenticity of my resignation,' said the rebel Congress leader.

On his future plans, Bishnoi said: 'I would like to contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections but have not decided the constituency in Haryana from where I would contest.'

He ruled out any possibility of his party making an alliance with any other political party in the state for the time being.

'Firstly, we are not thinking of making any alliance but if a situation arises then we would collaborate with the party that offers maximum avenues of development in Haryana,' he said.

Directing his tirade against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Bishnoi said: 'I personally respect our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but he is just working as a puppet in the hands of Sonia Gandhi.'
