'Ivory wave' replacing banned 'miaow miaow' as new party drug

Washington, Tue, 15 Mar 2011 ANI

Washington, Mar 15 (ANI): A drug known as 'ivory wave' seems to be replacing mephedrone or 'miaow miaow' as the next legal high after mephedrone was banned in the UK and made a class B drug in 2010.

The new drug, also known as 'purple wave', 'ivory coast', or 'vanilla sky', is growing in popularity and has already been implicated in deaths and illness across the UK.

It is usually sold online as bath salts in packets of between 200 and 500 mg, for 15 pounds a pop. It can be snorted or swallowed.

'Ivory wave' contains stimulant methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) and the anaesthetic lignocaine. MDPV can have effects in doses as low as 5 mg.

The findings appeared in the Emergency Medicine Journal. (ANI)
