The blast took place early this morning. The bomb that exploded was planted in an auto rickshaw. The magnitude of the blast, as was observed by the locals, was quite high. Police officials have confirmed the use of IED with LPG in the bomb. The police suspects ULFA behind this explosion, however, no militant organization has taken its responsibility.
The blast was so powerful that it shattered glass windows of nearby shops and also damaged concrete buildings. The pattern in which the act was carried is similar to earlier blasts and hence indicates the ULFA hand.
Athgaon is largely inhabited by non-Assamies and Hindi speaking people primarily from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. This is seen as an effort to harm Hindi speaking people in Assam. The militant outfit ULFA is constantly targeting Hindi speaking people and frequently attacking by setting bombs at different places.
This is the fourth instance of bomb blast in this month after the May 14 blast near Athgaon that took one life and injured five more. The last one took place in May 18, in which more than 20 people were injured.
ULFA rebels have so far killed more than 100 non-Assamies, since January this year. ULFA is trying to force Hindi speaking people to flee from the region.

| 1. | HI this is a native speaker from assam. And i know what is the situation behind this is """""""""POLITICS"""""""""""""" and nothing. I am from Assam and i am an under graduate and i understand better the situation and most when i was in guwahati. So i request the defence to do something under the table without the information to the useless politicians and kill the killers without mercy. I need every such terrorist to be pulleed out from the hideouts and killed and i know i am getting very inhuman natured but with such kind a guise this is the best language to speak with them. So my suggestion "please take it serious" and give it on the defence force to handle it without any interference of the politicians and we need clean assam and clean country and also peacefull world........ | Mohammed Mansoor Ali Kadir 2007-12-03 |
