Rahul visits stampede-hit Jodhpur temple
Jodhpur, Oct 2 (ANI): Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi last evening visited the Chamunda Devi Temple in Jodhpur, where at least 224 persons were killed and several others injured in a stampede, described as the worst ever in recent times in the country.Rahul spoke to the locals and the policemen who were present at the site and walked the same path where the stampede occurred.
A handful of devotees came to offer prayers on the second day of the nine-day Navratri festival at the temple and lamented the lack of facilities and administration in handling large crowds that led to the tragedy.
Officials said the crowds were especially large, as pilgrims gathered for the start of the festival.
The Rajasthan Government has ordered a judicial probe into the temple stampede. A retired judge of the Rajasthan High Court has been appointed to conduct investigation and submit his report in three months. (ANI)
