Bankura, Mar 10(ANI): Villagers in West Bengal's Bankura district have blamed poor development and non-availability of facilities on Maoists.
These include poor roads, lack of water supply, medical services and education facilities.
Kalipada Mali, a villager, said: "There is an acute water shortage. Many times the village tube wells fail and we have to travel to the nearby town to fetch clean water. Various service centres and the schools are also not functioning because of Maoists"
The problem of unemployment looms large over villagers, and many work with bamboo to earn a living.
"There is no fixed income for us. We purchase the raw materials for Rs. 400, but within a week, we earn Rs. 60, Rs. 150 or Rs. 400, from that it is not possible to lead a decent living" Mali added.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described the Maoist insurgents as India's biggest internal security challenge.
Elections in West Bengal will be held next month.
The Elections will be in six phases. The first phase of voting will take place on April 18, second phase on April 23, third phase on April 27, fourth phase on May 3, fifth phase on May 7 and sixth phase on May 10. (ANI)
