Ex-Man City star's wife was 'killed' by routine liposuction surgery, inquest told

London , Tue, 08 Mar 2011 ANI

London, Mar 8(ANI): Former Manchester City defender Colin Hendry's wife died after a seven-year battle to recover from a botched cosmetic surgery procedure, an inquest has heard.

Denise Hendry's bowel and colon were punctured nine times during the "routine" liposuction surgery carried out by Swedish-born Dr. Gustaf Aniansson at a private Lancashire clinic in April 2002.

The mother-of-four spent three months in hospital after initially being given a 10 percent chance of survival.

Denise went on to have two more major operations to try to correct the damage caused, but died from a post-operative infection in July 2009.

Dr. Peter Bunting, an NHS doctor who treated Denise, said that he was convinced that the liposuction was the beginning of the chain of events that led to her death.

"Without the initial surgery Denise Hendry would still be alive and well," Sky News quoted Dr. Bunting, as saying.

Meanwhile, Hendry told the inquest that one doctor went to report Dr. Aniansson to the General Medical Council, only to discover he had already taken himself off the register.

The inquest continues.
