Hindus want comics to accurately portray scriptural heroes and tales

Nevada (US) , Mon, 07 Mar 2011 ANI

Nevada (US), Mar 7 (ANI): Hindus have urged the comics' publishers to stay true to the story and spirit of the scriptures while showcasing ancient Hindu scriptural subjects.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that they welcomed the portrayal of tales and heroes from Hindu scriptures, but the final product should be the true depiction of the scripture and not a fantasized or a re-imagined version.

Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, said that changing ancient Sanskrit scriptures to fit the commercial machine were likely to hurt the Hindu sentiments. Refashioning Hinduism concepts, symbols, and doctrines for mercantile greed was not okay. Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion followers and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken lightly.

There is said to be currently lot of excitement in the about $65 million vibrant Indian comics industry, which plans to take its heroes to the new media. (ANI)
