New Delhi, Oct 1 (IANS) Sterlite Technologies Wednesday said it has bagged an order from state-run telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) for supplying optical fibre cables.
The order is valued at Rs.240 million.
The company will supply high-density ribbon fibre optic cables, which BSNL will initially install in about 100 city sites across the country, the Maharashtra-based firm said in a statement.
BSNL would use the ribbon fibre optic cables in its pan-India broadband access network to enhance the efficiency of network rollout.
Ribbon fibre optic cables provide an efficient means to achieve high fibre density, as well as reduce the time per fibre required for installation, thus facilitating quick rollout of the network.
Further, with the growth in demand for fibre cable from the domestic and global telecom and power sectors, the company is also scaling up its operations, the statement added.
The company is doubling the manufacturing capacity at its optical fibre facility to 12 million km and tripling the manufacturing capacity at its fibre optic cables facility to six million km, the statement said.
The company earlier had bagged two contracts worth Rs.1070 million from BSNL.
The first contract was for fibre optic cables that BSNL would install in about 900 urban centres across the country and the second was for copper telecom cables to develop basic telephony in rural areas.
