Moscow, Oct 1 (RIA Novosti) Boris Yefimov, a Soviet political cartoonist noted for his caricatures of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany, died Wednesday at the age of 108, the Ekho Moskvy radio station said.
Yefimov was born in 1900 in Kiev, the present capital city of Ukraine. He moved to Moscow in the early 1920s after his brother, who was working as an editor for Pravda, offered him a job of drawing political cartoons.
His artistic talent, directed mainly against the 'capitalist west', gained him prominence, and his works started appearing in satirical magazines like Krokodil and Ogonyak.
He received Soviet state prizes in 1950 and 1951. He was also named People's Painter of the Soviet Union in 1967.
In 2007, on his 107th birthday, Yefimov was appointed chief artist of the Izvestia newspaper.
He continued to draw and work on his memoirs until his death.
