Ganguly recalled to Indian Test squad
Indian selectors have finally included former skipper Sourav Ganguly in the 15-member team for the first two games of the four-match Test series against Australia starting from October 9 in Bangalore.
Ganguly’s inclusion came amid ambiguity as he was dropped from the squad of Rest of India (RoI) in the recently concluded Irani Trophy. The selectors during that time thought it to be his overall fitness and poor form in the Sri Lanka series for his elimination.
However tagged as the ‘comeback man’, Sourav yet again made a return to the team, though speculations are on the head of his retirement soon after the Australia series. Some believe that his comeback to the team is to give an honorary retirement to India’s most successful Test captain.
Besides, the new selection committee headed by Krishnamachari Srikkanth also gave opportunity to youngster S Badrinath (as middle order batsman) and leg spinner Amit Mishra in the first two Tests.
The first Test will begin from October 9 in Bangalore followed by matches in Mohali from October 17 to 21, in Delhi from October 29 to November 2 and in Nagpur from November 5 to 9.
