Show-cause notice to two St. Stephen's teachers
The show-cause notices issued to two of the Lecturers from Department of History by St, Stephan's College authorities has upset the whole teaching fraternity.
The notices were against Sangeeta Luthra Sharma and Tasneem Subhrawardy alleging them for “Abusing the teaching space by indulging in irrelevant and incendiary statements on issues that do not pertain to the course of study”.
While both the teachers have dismissed the allegation against themselves and asked for evidences to support their claim Valson Thampu, the Officer on Special Duty served the notice which read, “It has come to my notice that you have in the recent past abused the ….and by distributing scurrilous material, utterly unrelated to anything in course, in the classroom during, what should have been teaching sessions guided by the prescribed syllabus. I understand that this has been done repeatedly to the point of provoking some students to protest explicitly in the class room.”
However both the teacher rejected the claims and said that the language used in the notice is too harsh and is without any proof. The duos have asked Delhi University Teacher’s Association (DUTA) intervention in the matter and a probe into the matter by independent inquiry committee.
DUTA’s President Aditya Narayan Mishra said that it will take up the matter with Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental and St. Stephan’s OSD.
Earlier St. Stephen’s college committee probing a sexual harassment allegation against a Sanskrit professor has accused his department of attempts to threaten it. The Sanskrit Professors had alleged that the committee has selectively released their name to media which committee has denied.
