May 25: It’s now the turn of Bharatiya Janata Party to complain the Election Commission EC, about the violation of code of conduct. Prior to Goa Assembly elections, the BJP today has complained against Vishwajeet Rane, son of present Goa Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane. He is currently contesting as an independent candidate from the Valpoi constituency.
State BJP leader Manohar Parrikar, who also contends for the CM’s chair, has complained that Vishwajeet is distributing watches with his party symbol and name on them, which is a serious violation of election code of conduct.
Parrikar has told reporters that such watches have been distributed in the entire constituency prior election to attract voters in the elections which will be held on June 2.
“According to the election code of conduct, such malpractices are violations of the code of conduct under section 123 of election law and Vishwajeet should be barred from contesting elections, Parrikar added.
Vishwajeet is now contesting as an independent candidate after he resigned from the general secretary’s post and later filed his nomination as an independent candidate. His father, Pratap Singh Rane, is a senior Congress leader who now aspires to be the Chief Minister for the sixth time. Though the CM has denied any such campaign for his son but Congress party has not presented any other candidate in the same constituency.
BJP in his letter to the Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Negi has also pointed out that the Congress, which is supporting Vishwajeet and the party, is allegedly involved in various misconducts. After BJP’s CD controversy in UP assembly poll, the party now sees an opportunity to attack others in the upcoming assembly election in Goa.
