Strauss backs England to do well in World Cup despite Oz ODI series rout, injuries

Perth, Mon, 07 Feb 2011 ANI

Perth, Feb 7(ANI): England captain Andrew Strauss has said that he is confident of his team doing well in the upcoming World Cup despite the 6-1 ODI series loss to Australia.

The captain also insists that his teammates who are currently injured will recover in time for the two-month tournament in the India sub-continent.

"The first thing to ponder on the flight back is which players are fit. We must think about what we haven't done well in this series and how to adapt our game to the conditions in the sub-continent," the Sun quoted Strauss, as saying.

"I still feel very confident we can do well in the World Cup, but we need to play in a different manner."

"Eoin Morgan is the most serious injury concern. There's a chance he won't feature in the World Cup. He would be a big loss. I'm pretty confident most of our other injuries will be fine," he added.

Morgan was added to the casualty list when the sore middle finger he has been suffering for the past week was diagnosed as a break.

All-rounder Paul Collingwood had earlier returned home to recover from a back spasm, fast bowler Tim Bresnan is out with a torn calf muscle, Ajmal Shahzad has a torn hamstring, while off-spinner Graeme Swann is struggling with his sore back.

Fast bowler Stuart Broad is still working his way back to full pace after tearing a stomach muscle in December.ngland has their first World Cup warm-up match scheduled on February 16. (ANI)
