54 pounds super-strong beers with 32pc alcohol on sale in the UK

London , Mon, 07 Feb 2011 ANI

London, Feb 7 (ANI): One of the world's strongest ales, which can put you over the limit in just one swig, is now up for grabs at 54.99 pounds a bottle in England.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin contains 32 percent of alcohol, reports the Daily Mail.

The brew is on a par with spirits and drinkers are warned to sip it in small measures. But there is concern it could encourage irresponsible drinking.

Jack Law, of Alcohol Focus, said the super-strong drink was a marketing ploy.

"We want to know why a brewer would produce a beer almost as strong as whisky?" he asked.

Birmingham off-licence owner Harpal Rai is the first in England to sell the beer at his Rai Wine Shops.

"I was on a waiting list as it takes so long to brew. I've sold four bottles," Rai said.

However, he said super-strong beers were not aimed at the younger market.

"This beer is more for the discerning customer who likes quality," Rai added.

The ale is made at BrewDog, in Fraserburgh, Scotland.

Company Boss James Watt said, "This is about taking innovation in beer to a whole new level." (ANI)
