CAPITAL SPORTS: Sarandeep shines for ONGC

A four-wicket haul by former India Test player Sarandeep Singh helped Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to score a 13-run thrilling victory over Malviya Club in the Premier division DDCA league cricket match played at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground here on Thursday.

In an elite league match, Delhi Gymkhana registered an emphatic 10-wicket win over RCN Club.

 

Openers Nitin Saini (74 n.o.) and Maneet Jovyar (73 n.o.) romped their team home without any trouble with brilliant half-century knocks.


In a Super Plate division match, Ashoka's Anuj Chauhan (5/24) valiant effort went in vain as Sonnex Club scored an exciting 9-run win over their opponents.


BRIEF SCORES


Premier division: ONGC 116 in 31.3 overs (Vikas Tokas four for 44) beat Malviya Club 103 in 32 overs (Sarandeep Singh four for 44).


Elite: RCN Club 147 for nine in 40 overs lost to Delhi Gymkhana 148 for no wicket in 31 overs (Nitin Saini 74 not out, Maneet Jovyar 73 not out).


Super Plate: Ashoka Club 162 in 37 overs (Devender Kumar four for 20) lost to Sonnex Club 153 in 39 overs (Sumit 44, Anuj Chouhan five for 24).


* Razdan, Ragini make grade for Level-2 coach


Former India Test player Vivek Razdan is among the 12 North zone coaches who have successfully qualified the Level-2 Coaches course conducted by the National Cricket Academy at the Ferozeshah Kotla here from June 29 to July 4, 2007. Ragini Malhotra is the only woman, who made the cut, in the list of twelve successful participants.


Qualified coaches: Sachin Khurana, Mahesh Sharma, Vivek Razdan, Anirudh Tripathi, Sanjay Dobal, Shankar Saini, Arun Khurana, Ragini Malhotra, Harjeet Bajwa, Surender Mehta, Naveen Chopra and V. Arvind.


* Lalit's century turns futile


A fine century by Lalit Kumar went in vain as host Frank Anthony Public School , Lajpat Nagar moved into the finals, after scoring a one-wicket victory over Amity International School , Saket, in the semi-finals, of the sixth Frank Anthony memorial inter-school cricket tournament.


Scores: Amity International School, Saket, 222 in 39.5 overs (Lalit Kumar 110, Akash Singh 30, Akash Sudan four for 40, Sagar Sudan four for 44) lost to Frank Anthony Public School, Lajpat Nagar, 224 for nine in 39.4 overs (Rachit Jain 36, Mohit Pandey 34, Jatin Singari 33, Feroz Anand three for 16, Lalit Kumar three for 56).


* Nationals pips Hindustan


Riding on a 78th minute penalty kick converted by Anthony last year's runner-up Indian National scored a hard fought 1-0 victory over formidable Hindustan Club in a group â??A' super-league encounter of the SAIL-ONGC DSA senior division football league played at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Thursday.


With this win, Indian National took its tally to seven points from three matches, while Hindustan has only three from three matches.


* Khate wins in style


Lucky loser Vlasier Khate upped the ante of his game and emerged as champion, after beating second-seeded Sushanta Mohanty 6-1, 6-1, in the boys' final of the Ram Lal memorial AITA Talent series junior tennis tournament played at the Vasant Kunj Sports Complex here on Thursday.


Khate had lost in the final round of the qualifying event and got the entry as lucky loser, but the lad from Nagaland went on to win the title in style, dropping just nine games in five rounds.


In the girls' section, the top-seeded Nehal Sahni raced to victory over fourth-seeded Tahira Bhatti. Lt. Col. N. S. Yadav, Secretary, Vasant Kunj Sports Complex, presented the prizes to the participants.


Results (finals): Boys: U-14: Vlasier Khate bt Sushanta Mohanty 6-1, 6-1.


Girls: U-14: Nehal Sahni bt Tahira Bhatti 6-2, 6-3.
