Kerala vigilance case against ex-minister in nepotism case

Kerala,National,Politics,Crime/Disaster/Accident, Fri, 06 Jan 2017 IANS

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 6 (IANS) Kerala's Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday registered a case against former Industry Minister E.P. Jayarajan and two others after a preliminary probe into the appointment of a relative in a state-run PSU.

Those booked along with Jayarajan, a senior CPI-M legislator, after the bureau allegedly found wrongdoings in the case are his nephew P.K. Sudheer and senior IAS officer Paul Antony.

Sudheer is the son of CPI-M Kannur Lok Sabha member P.K. Sreemathy.

Jayarajan quit in October 2016 after he appointed his nephew as Managing Director of Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE) Ltd. Sudheer did not accept the post following the controversy.

Leader of opposition and Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala told the media that the party stand on the issue had been vindicated after the FIR in the case.

"We have demanded a probe into Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's role too since it happened with his knowledge," said Chennithala.

The entire top Communist Party of India-Marxist leadership is presently holding party politburo and Central Committee meetings in the state.
