New Delhi, Jan 2 (IANS) An on-duty Delhi Police head constable on Monday shot himself dead with his service revolver inside the Supreme Court premises, the city police said.

Chand Pal Singh, 45, who was deputed at the court for the last one-and-half years, shot himself sometime between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

The shooting took place near Gate G of the apex court complex, a police officer said.

A resident of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, Singh was reportedly unhappy over some problems in his family. The police also suspect family reasons behind his suicide.

Singh was currently staying with his family in staff quarters at a police colony in Mohammadpur. He was posted in security at the Supreme Court in April 2014.

Another police official said Singh's promotion to the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector was due. Singh was hoping for his promotion this time after Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma announced to promote 25,000 policemen.

Singh was saddened for the last two days when he did not get promotion, the officer added.

Singh's duty hours started at 7 a.m. but on Monday he came at 8 a.m. After he shot himself, he was rushed to the nearby Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by doctors, the police officer said.
