Will Oppo F1s Recreate The Magic Of Oppo F1 Plus?

New Delhi, Tue, 13 Sep 2016 NI Wire

Though we have wide range of smartphones in the market hailing from the Chinese smartphone market, it's notable that Oppo finds its way of standing out among the rest. All the devices by Oppo have managed to bag user attention with their unique built, design, features and the most prominent of all features - the selfie camera.

The new F-series is no different and the devices in this series are all affordable, camera-focused and rich with features. Oppo F1 is the original "selfie-expert" device which has been loved by all. And other than the selfie camera, Oppo F1 is even liked for its budgeted price, good speakers, build and wonderful display.

While the F1 was popular, it was F1 Plus which actually created a stir with features like 1080p AMOLED panel, 4GB of RAM, MediaTek Helio P10 SoC and 13MP selfie shooter. To cash in the popularity of the F1 Plus, Oppo then came with the F1s priced at $300

Let us now see if the F1s manages to carry forward the legacy as built by the Oppo F1 Plus.

Display

Oppo F1s has 5.5-inch display which we can find similar in all the smartphones these days. But to complement the affordable price, it has cut down on resolution and technology. In place of the popular and superior AMOLED screen as was seen in F1 Plus, F1s sticks to simple LCD with 720p resolution.

Connectivity

Oppo F1s offers two detached nano SIM card slots, but none of them hinders microSD. It gives you good speed with Cat. 6 LTE which has theoretical limit of 300 Mbps downstream and HSPA+. It even supports the Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. The microUSB 2.0 port not only manages charging and data, but USB OTG support also which allows you to connect external hardware to your phone. This feature will have to be activated by switching to its toggle, 'hidden' in the Settings menu.

Battery

The F1s comes with 3075 mAh battery higher than both F1 (2,500 mAh) and the F1 Plus (2,850 mAh). Oppo F1s runs for 75-hours under standard use which is highly commendable and is even better than F1 Plus.

Performance

With Oppo F1s, you get MediaTek chips with a lower clock speed on CPU and GPU. In terms of performance, the F1s is similar to that of F1. If you are in search for a sturdy performer for heavy workloads, Oppo F1s is certainly not the best option.

Camera

It's the selfie expert phone and thus features 16MP front camera and 13MP back camera. The back camera has slower lens - f/2.2 whereas it's f/2.0 on the front.

The image quality in general is good but it lacks the precision which we had earlier seen in the Oppo F1 Plus.

Conclusion

F1s was launched in order to duplicate an F1 with better screen, more reasonable translation of the best-selling F1 Plus. And one can say that F1s has succeeded in doing the same with perfection.

Why you would like to buy this device entirely depends on your choice and requirement from your smartphone. The device looks good with polished design, fingerprint reader and accessible software.

However, for those looking for spotless Android experience, LG Nexus 5X is a major contender. The device has undergone price change and is now available for $250, wherein you get a device with 5.2-inch FullHD display, 2 GB RAM, Snapdragon 808 SOC, and 16GB of storage; but this one is not expandable.

The other option is Lenovo's Moto G, which has a fingerprint reader and is in the same price bracket. Another of Lenovo's device, the ZUK Z2 is also an option with Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM for only USD $50 extra.

Oppo F1s has many competitors in line, and the winner can only be declared based on user choice. It is for you to decide if Oppo F1s meets your needs!
