If you are a fan of thrillers especially the ones made by Anurag Kashyap, you'll be next looking up to Raman Raghav 2.0 - which is directed by Anurag Kashyap.
The film depicts the life of infamous serial killer Raman Raghav who was active in Mumbai in the mid-1960s. Film's title role is played by none other than the highly talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Subjects based on serial killing and psychic crimes were once a hit formula in Bollywood but they soon took a backseat.
But from the looks of Raman Raghav 2.0 it seems that the era will soon be back. While we talk of the film, let us here get into more details and explore this thriller closely.
Cast: The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the infamous serial killer Raman Raghav and Masaan fame Vicky Kaushal as the cop in the film. Other actors supporting the cast are Vipin Sharma, Amruta Subhash, Sobhita Dhulipala and Ashok Lokhande.
Plot: Raman Raghav dwells in the life of notorious serial killer by the same who was active during 1960s and had killed many people in Mumbai. It is believed that Raman made use of a regular steel rod to condense human faces to disengaged heads and broken skulls. He was arrested after a lot of struggle and man hunting carried out by Mumbai police. During custody, he confessed to committing 41 murders. The Bombay High Court have him death sentence which was later changed life imprisonment post a plea from his defense which cited that Raman was mentally unable of making mindful decisions therefore did not know that his acts were illegal. Raman Raghav 2.0 talks of the same, however, it has the Anurag Kashyap touch topped by Nawaz's impeccable sense of acting.
Production & Marketing: Anurag had this subject in his mind for long but wasn't able to bring it down on papers. However, things fell together in 2015 wherein he first approached Vicky Kaushal for the cop's role and then went on to cast Nawazuddin in the title role. The shooting commenced in September 2015, and was completed on 22 November 2015. The film was shot in merely twenty days owing to its shoestring budget.
It was Anurag who announced its release date via Twitter. On April 19, 2016, Raman Raghav was premiered at the 2016 Cannes Directors' Fortnight where it got a huge response indicating towards its equally big run at the box office.
Anurag further released two teaser posters of it on 24 April 2016. The first look came out on April 25, 2016 where Siddiqui was seen staring in front with his red eyes. Second poster of the film came on May 1 where we got to see half faces of both Kaushal and Siddiqui. Its first teaser released on 6 May 2016, with 46 seconds runtime followed by three other teasers that gave a peek of the serial killer.
Trailer & Release: Film's theatrical trailer came out on 10 May, 2016 and it did win hearts around. The gripping tale of a serial killer has indeed sought attention. It will hit the screens on June 24, 2016 and there are high expectations of it being a massive hit.
