Panasonic Eluga Arc: Price Is The Major Problem!

New Delhi, Fri, 10 Jun 2016 NI Wire

As we stated earlier as well, the smartphone market is full of good options that are affordable and feature rich at the same time.

Joining this bandwagon is Panasonic's latest launch Eluga Arc smartphone which is priced at Rs 12,490. At this price tag, Eluga Arc is geared to give competition to recently released flagships such as the Coolpad Note 3 Plus and Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016).

So, let us take a look at the device and find out if it has the needed caliber to take over the smartphone market.

Design & Display

In terms of looks, this device from Panasonic is undoubtedly the best looking devices to have released of late. It has a compact build with curved edges that make it look good as well give the much needed grip too. It has unibody design with sim-tray placed at the left. The power button and volume rockers placed at right while microUSB port is at the bottom. At the back it has the camera and fingerprint sensor.

In terms of display, the new Panasonic Eluga Arc sports 4.7-inch HD display with 720x1280 pixels resolution. The screen is indeed smaller in comparison to the other devices which are all backed by 5 inch screen.

Though the screen is small but color reproduction is very rich this makes movie watching and gaming a delightful experience. Its viewing angles are pretty good but using it under direct sunlight can be a trouble as the screen is reflective.

At the front, there’s one selfie camera and other sensors. It also offers 360-degree UI rotation in the portrait and landscape modes.

Performance & Camera

The Panasonic Eluga Arc is backed by 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and for storage has 2GB RAM. It has an internal memory of 16GB that can be expanded with microSD card. With this processor, the device certainly performs well. Be it gaming or multitasking, it handles everything smoothly.

In terms of battery, it has only 1,800 mAh battery which doesn’t live up to the expectations. It doesn’t last as per the claims made and needs to be charged every day. The device supports 4G network connectivity and it does work fine. Even the call quality and reception of signal is fault less.

Coming to its software, Panasonic Eluga Arc operates on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. Its UI almost stock Android, with a number of useful customization features. It allows you to adjust app drawer size and order apps as per your convenience. Its fingerprint sensor which is placed at the back also worked smoothly and unlocks the screen without any delay or hassle.

Next is the camera which is indeed a vital thing in smartphones. Eluga Arc 2 sports 8MP primary camera backed by LED flash and for selfies it houses 5MP front camera. Under daylight conditions, the device does take decent photos with good clarity. As we said, it color reproduction is very good and clear which makes the experience pretty good.

But when you use the zoom in functionality, results won’t be satisfactory as it picks up digital noise. The camera even fails when used for clicking indoor photos or when used under scarce light. As for the selfie camera, the performance stood out to be pretty average.

Conclusion

If you look at the specifications, Panasonic Eluga Arc doesn’t fare to the point. In fact, its design happens to be the only saving grace. And for the price of Rs 12,490, the specifications aren’t doing any good. At a similar price range one can actually opt for other bettr options such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Cooplad Note 3 Plus and LeEco 1s.
