Find Out If Sony Xperia X Should Be Your Next Buy

New Delhi, Fri, 10 Jun 2016 NI Wire

Sony came with Xperia X smartphone and introduced it in the Indian market last week. The X series flagships launched include Xperia X, Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra.

However, it’s Xperia X which has stood out of all. The device is available for Rs. 48,990 and went out for sale from June 7. Xperia XA is its inferior version and is priced Rs. 20,990. There is nothing known about Xperia XA Ultra availability and it’s yet to be seen when does the company actually launch it.

Over the past years, Sony has made many modifications in its devices and it left no stone unturned with Xperia X as well. Does that mean Xperia X strikes the right chord with users? It is really worth the price?
Check out this detailed review to know what’s under hood!

Design and display

In terms of design and look, Xperia X is a lot similar to Sony’s Xperia Z series. Though there is no major change in the design but it does help the series in being distinguishable. The front of Xperia X comes with 2.5D glass which actually makes the device highly prone to scratches. On the front you’ll see two small speakers; one is at the top while the other is placed under display alongside the selfie camera.

At the device power button, you’ll also have fingerprint sensor, camera button and volume rocker. Under it the device has microUSB port and 3.5mm headphone jack on top. At the left there is SIM/microSD card tray. On its back you’ll see main camera with LED flash on top and Xperia brand logo in centre. The design is quite sturdy and gives a firm grip. As for display, Xperia X boasts of 5 inch display with Full HD.

Performance & Camera

Sony Xperia X is backed by hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor supported by 3GB RAM. Though it has a mid-range processor but it carries off the tasks well. It runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of- the-box. There is no word on when the update in Android will happen.

The device even uses Sony Xperia UI which actually works pretty smoothly. It has pre-installed apps which you won’t really use. It includes some of Sony’s apps like the Albums, Video and Email.

It has 23MP main camera with Exmor RS sensor, LED flash, and the much hyped predictive autofocus, which will guess objects focus automatically. This feature does perform well. Though the camera takes decent pictures but we still can’t call it the best.

For selfies there is 13MP front camera which has Exmor RS sensor and 22mm wide angle lens. It performs great under day light but fails to give desired results under lowlight.

Battery Life

With a mid-range processor and 5-inch Full HD display, it was expected to have an impressive battery but this isn’t the case as the device has 2620mAh battery. But again, it manages to last a day under average use. So if you’re an everyday user, the battery won’t be much of a problem as the device manages all operations smoothly. The fingerprint sensor also works fine but only when the hands are dry.

Verdict

If we look at the specifications, it certainly has nothing major to boast about as many of the rival devices are offering similar features. And to top that, the price appears way too high. At Rs. 48,990, Xperia X isn’t giving you any spectacular feature.

Its display, design and things such as fingerprint sensor, quick image capturing is indeed good. However, But we did expect more.

Sony’s UPS has been camera, form factor plus battery. But at this large price, we aren’t sure if it will have enough sales in the country!
