Huawei P9: Is It The Right Phone For You?

New Delhi, Fri, 13 May 2016 NI Wire

The Chinese networking giant - Huawei has now launched the P9 which so far had been winning attention for its dual camera feature. It seems that smartphone makers nowadays are struggling hard to ape iPhones and this model also seems to be doing the same but in vain.

The design and built of P9 is quite decent and as stated, the dual camera is striking. But is it what the device can offer. Well, this review will make things clear:

Display

The device has a 5.2-inch display with full HD 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution, which gives it a pixel density of 423 pixels per inch. The device offers clear display for everyday apps like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Though its display is great, it doesn’t offer you the high-end resolutions like that of Galaxy S7 and LG G5. The screen is quite bright. Colors are extremely bold and offers a wonderful experience when browsing through photo gallery or playing vibrant games. The phone measures 145x70.9x6.95mm and weighs around 144g. It has an all-metal body with decent finish.

Processor And Storage

The device runs on octa-core Kirin 955 processor and is supported by 3GB RAM with MicroSD card expandable storage. The 3GB RAM makes it quite a powerful device which makes it to handle almost anything you bring up. It operates fast and loading of apps & games very quick and easy. Even Netflix streaming happens smoothly in this device.

Talking of performance, P9 excels Galaxy S7. It comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and it is interesting to see how Huawei has skinned Android interface with its personal Emotion UI. It brings in a major change to Android, wherein the app tray is removed because of which the apps would appear scattered all over our home screen.

Battery Life

If go by the company claim, the device which comes with a 3,000mAh battery can last for a maximum of two days. To an extent the claim stands true as even under powerful use the phone works pretty well.  Even on the standby mode, the phone holds the charge very well. It holds its charge well in standby mode and if you turn down screen brightness and switch off GPS and Wi-Fi. Also, if you wish to save your last few percent of battery, you can choose the ultra battery mode that allows access to call and texts only.

Camera

As we stated in the beginning also, the phone has been raving about its two camera feature. The dual primary cameras are of 12MP and there is a front snapper of 8MP. Camera quality is quite commendable and the dual cameras do perform well. The cameras take splendid black-and-white shots

Verdict

For the features P9 holds, the price should be a little less. This is primarily because the top contenders along with it offer a similar price range but better features & performance. If compared with the previous Huawei phones, P9 ranks low in terms of its software. Even in terms of Android, it comes with its own home based Emotion UI which apparently affects its overall performance quality
