The 4GB RAM Fails to Save Micromax's Canvas 6 Pro

New Delhi, Wed, 11 May 2016 NI Wire

Micromax came up with a new logo and brand identity while unveiling its two latest flagships, Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro at its Gurgaon event last month.

With an aim to overpower the Chinese competitors like Xiaomi and LeEco, Micromax is looking to come up with high-end smartphones and thus break its image of budget phone maker.

Using 4GB RAM as its plus point, Micromax has taken an edge over its rivals who mostly pitch for high-resolution screens, fingerprint sensors, metal bodies and top-flight CPUs at very low prices, Micromax has decided to go with 4GB of RAM as its trump card. Most of the smartphones under the bracket of Rs. 10,000 offer 2GB of RAM, ones under Rs. 15,000 already have 3GB.

It really would be interesting to see if Micromax can win big with this feature. Let's go through its detailed specification.

Canvas 6 Pro At A Glance

The Canvas 6 Pro is indeed Micromax's best-looking phone till date. With this new device, it has cast away the low quality materials and has come with a well-built model.

At its front you have on-screen buttons. Power and volume buttons come on the right, with Micro-USB port at bottom, and 3.5mm audio socket on top. Its back side appears like that of HTC's old Windows 8 models. At the top it has primary camera and flash along with the company's new logo.

The case makes place for its removable battery, and custom slots for microSD card, Nano-SIM, and Micro-SIM. The box comes with a charger, headset, cable, microfibre cloth and adhesive screen protector.

Specifications

This latest model is equipped with 2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 SoC and the already stated 4GB RAM. And to top it, the phone even has a 16GB of storage and microSD support up to 64GB.

Its screen measures 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080x1920, which we believe completely justifies the price. Coming to camera, it has a 13MP main camera and 5MP in front. Both the SIMS will support LTE and microSD card slot isn't shared with any of them. It connects with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, USB-OTG and Bluetooth 4.1. And has a removable battery of 3000mAH.

Performance

Contrary to some of Micromax's phones, the software in this new device isn't too disturbing and the hardware certainly has space for more tasks. The 4G RAM has been touted as the trump card used by Micromax but we can't be sure whether it fully justifies its present or not.

The screen is vivid and brittle, but we can't say the same for glass as it is very reflective, which tends to be a bit upsetting.

Verdict

To favor its new brand identity, Micromax has certainly paid a lot of attention to Canvas 6 Pro as it happens to be the company's pioneer range in the novel launch. This is the reason; it sports good aesthetics as compared to previous Micromax phones.

The phone's performance is certainly good but we can't claim it to be flawless. It does come with issues like overheating and battery life. Even the camera doesn't excel much and fails to offer the desired picture quality.

We believe had Micromax paid more attention on the software part rather than increasing the RAM which either ways isn't doing much good for the phone, things would have certainly been different and more favorable in terms of user interface. The smartphone indeed has qualities to win big but common issues like overheating and lesser battery life kills the show.

If Micromax is willing to win big, it should work on improving the performance part and we're sure rest everything would fall in place then!
