PM gave his approval for One Rank One Pension

PM Modi given approval for implementation of OROP and benefit will be given with effect from 1st July 2014.

A long standing demand from the ex-service men of defense forces is finally got approved. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given his approval for the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP). For past few months many ex service men were protesting in demand for one rank one pension which was also supported by Modi during the General election of 2014. After months of protest last year central government made it clear that they are in the process of implementing but need more time and meetings were held between the Ministers and the representative of Ex-service men.

After the approval benefit will be given with effect from 1st July, 2014. Pension amount will be re-fixed for those who retired from their services before 1.07.2014 who were retiring in the same rank with same duration of service. This benefit would also be given to family pensioners including war widows and disabled. Earlier it was under suspense whether those who opt for voluntarily retirement will be getting benefit or not.

Personnel who opt to get discharged henceforth on their own request under Rule 13(3) 1(i) (b), 13(3) 1(iv) or Rule 16B of the Army Rule. 1954 or equivalent Navy or Air Force Rules will not be entitled to the benefits of OROP. It will be effective prospectively.

As these benefits will be getting in effect form 1 July 2014 the arrear will be paid to the beneficiaries in four half-yearly installments. However, the family pensioner's including those who received special family pension and Gallantry award winners shall be paid arrear in one installment. And for future government will do the evaluation of pension in every 5 years. Judicial Committee has been set up headed by Justice L. Naraimha Reddy, will help in removal of any deviation that may arise in the implantation of OROP. Till 31ast march 2016, 15.91 lakh pensioners have been given the first installment of OROP, total amount was Rs.2, 861 crore.
