India will be World's largest clean energy market: Piyush Goyal

Government is focused and working towards balancing the demand of electricity with ensuring sustainable growth.

'Our intention is to provide electricity to every home in the country by 2019' said Piyush Goyal, Minister of state (IC) for power, coal and renewable energy. Mr. Goyal was speaking at the session, "Energising India through Global Partnerships” at the CII Annual Session 2016. He also stated that our main motive is to focus on multipronged strategy to ensure we can fulfil the demand and supply of electricity. We are also giving emphasis on renewable energy and ensuring sustainable growth, our first priority is to electrify every house of poor in the country and I am confident that we will be able to provide electricity to every village by next year.

UDAY, the power sector reform, will be helping us in addressing inefficiencies and expected to result in saving of Rs.180,000 crore annually from 2019. This saving will provide headroom to bring down the industrial tariff.

Mr. Goyal also listed out nine achievement of their government in the year 2015-16, during this time period government electrified 7,108 villages out of 18,452. We have worked faster and better as the target was just 2,800 villages, we have distributed 9 crore LED bulbs by EESL. 3,200 MW of wind power capacity; 24,171 MW conventional power addition; Power Grid Corporation commissioned projects of more than Rs 30,000 crore accomplishing annual growth of 39% ;Initiation of transmission bids worth Rs. 1 lakh crore was also done in span of one year. He further said we have done the highest ever coal production of 42mt in a single year and now country has become coal surplus; in just two years we have added 74mt and produced 536.5 million tons of coal with growth of 8.6% highest since 1988. Solar project for more the 21GW were also bid out during the year.

Piyush Goyal also said Renewable energy is future, and we are also working in order to increase our capacity to generate more electricity from natural resources in the same direction we are confident that we will be able to achieve the target of 20,000 MW of solar by 2017 and 100 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2022. Mr Goyal said we are having dialogues with several countries including US, Japan and Australia to seek cooperation at global level for The International Solar Alliance (ISA) a key initiative launched by India.

While in the end of his speech he said we are working on creating simple, reliable and friendly regulatory framework for industries so that they can grow because ultimately entrepreneurs will lead India into the path of development.
