Four Bollywood Flicks to Watch Out For in January 2017

Bollywood, Wed, 28 Dec 2016 NI Wire

A new year is not only meant to signify new hopes and aspirations to the people in terms of prosperity, but entertainment too. January being the first month of the year coupled with the demonetisation move that proved as a hard stroke for the film industry, as well as, the viewers in the last two months of this year, give the movie buffs the reason enough to desperately await the next releases. With Bollywood entering the never treaded territories in terms of subjects and technique of filmmaking, this wait has even got much more exciting. So let us take a look at the movies which are lined for January 2017 release.

  1. Ok Jaanu: Before the trailers came out, the Mani Ratnam's official remake of O Kadhal Kanmani, was already in news for its casting of the beloved Aashiqi 2 pair – Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor. The A.R. Rahman musical has now struck the right chord with the audience through its hummable scores, as well as, through ooze of great chemistry between the leads. From what is derived from the trailers, the romantic drama is based on the issues of the live-in partners, who run away from the concept of marriage get into ‘real love' later. Well, it quite reminds us of the latest release Befikre which had a similar storyline. Unfortunately, the film starring cool Ranveer Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor was not received that well. Nevertheless, we hope Ok Jaanu which will hit the theatres on 13th January, will be successful in pleasing the viewers.
  2. A Death in the Gunj: Although, the movie has not gained much popularity due to non-pursuance of full-fledged promotions through trailer launch and other gimmicks, it looks like an engrossing thriller and a great watch for the non-commercial cinema lovers. A Death in the Gunj marks the debut of the National Award winning actress Konkona Sen Sharma, who is also the scriptwriter of the film. Its world premiere occurred at 21st Toronto International Film festival and received warm response while being screened at other festivals took. The film is about strange unfolding of events during a family holiday in the colonial town of McCluskieganj. Releasing on 13th January, the starcast of the movie includes Vikrant Massey (in lead role), supported by pro artists like Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin, Om Puri and Tanuja among others.
  3. Raees: The film needs no introduction to the movie-goers, since it has the one and only Shahrukh Khan as the protagonist. Since Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Dear Zindagi only aggravated the hunger of Shahrukh Fans by featuring him in cameos, this movie is bound to ignite many emotions. After much delay which happened due to mutual consent for giving space to Salman Khan's Sultan and then due to furore over Pakistani artists amid political rivalry, Raees is finally ready for a grand welcome on January 25.  Apart from SRK's charm as a bad guy involved in bootlegging, the movie boasts of having Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a tough Cop and Mahira Khan (debuting in Bollywood) as SRK's love interest. Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the action drama is rumoured to be based on Abdul Latif's life, a crime lord in Gujarat. Well with so many crackers in single packing, the flick is surely going to be an explosion and it better be, as the crazy followers of the ‘Badshah of Bollywood' hope to prove his might to fans of the other two Khans who swept box-office with Sultan and Dangal respectively.
  4. Kaabil: Another Bollywood Masala Movie which is considered a major release in coming January. The Hrithik Roshan starrer was already a buzz creator for obvious reasons and remaining work was done with its release date colliding with SRK's Raees, which belongs to the same genre. The seeming tale of intense love and vengeance looks quite promising from its rushes as it features the Superstar in a moving role alongside Yami Gautam for the first time. The dialogues of the Sanjay Gupta action flick are already being liked by the masses and it also has the winning combination of Rakesh Roshan and Rajesh Roshan as producer and music director. It also has Ronit Roy in negative shades and shows the leading characters as visually impaired couple. It would be really interesting to watch how the movie fares in between such a great hype, especially since Mohenjodaro, the last work of our Krish turned out to be a debacle.
