The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has flayed the UP Government for the growing number of cases of sex determination tests, and said the only if the government showed seriousness that such incidents could be curbed. Officers of the Haryana Government have exposed many such cases in UP, he added.

Addressing a public meeting organised at Chhaprauli Baghpat in UP today, he said that as a result of the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Scheme launched by the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, from Panipat, the sex ratio in Haryana had increased to 914 from 850 in January, 2015.

"We have opened women's police station at every district headquarter to ensure the safety of women in Haryana and women help desks have been established at sub-divisional level", he added.

The Chief Minister said that after coming to power, the BJP Government had taken several steps for the welfare of farmers. these include distribution of compensation of Rs 2,400 crore to them during the last two years for the damage caused to crops due to natural calamities, increasing the price of sugarcane to Rs 320 per quintal and giving the facility of interest-free loan to such farmers as paid back the loan on time. Only Rs 1,200 crore had been given as compensation to the farmers since 1966 till formation of the BJP Government in Haryana in 2014, he added.

He paid rich tributes to the former Prime Minister, Ch Charan Singh, on the occasion of his jayanti. Earlier, Mr Manohar Lal  performed ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ of a high level bridge on Yamuna river on the road connecting Haryana and UP. The bridge would benefit people in about 24 Assembly constituencies in both states. A sum of Rs 125 crore would be spent on it. After two years, the farmers would be able to take their produce to Asia’s biggest international fruits and vegetable terminus being set up in Ganaur in Haryana.

Referring to the similarities between Haryana and Baghpat, he said that during the Mahabharta, Baghpat was among the five ‘pats’ demanded by the Pandavas apart from Sonipat and Panipat in Haryana. He also expressed his gratitude to the BJP President, Mr Amit Shah, for taking the new initiative of connecting Haryana with UP.

The Chief Minister urged the Union Rural Development Minister, Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar, to give greater assistance for the development projects in Haryana.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Mr Tomar described Mr Manohar Lal as an ‘efficient organize and efficient administrator’. Dr. Satyapal Singh, MP, also spoke on this occasion.
