Campaign to detect leakage, contamination in Delhi water supply network

Delhi,National,Politics,Business/Economy, Thu, 22 Dec 2016 IANS

New Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) The Delhi government has decided to conduct a city-wide "Walk the Line" survey to check the entire water network for leakages and contamination, Water Minister Kapil Mishra said on Thursday.

800 Junior Engineers, along with their staff of about 3,500 members, will be deployed for the project, Mishra told reporters here.

"Each engineer will submit daily reports of broken pipelines, household contamination, valves and underground reservoirs and suggest engineering solutions for each kilometer under their jurisdiction within 45 days," he said.

Mishra added that after the survey is complete, the Delhi Jal Board will take a massive exercise to repair the leakages or replace the parts, if needed, within six months.

The step is aimed to provide clean drinking water straight from the taps to the households across Delhi, he said.

"DJB has received a mandate from the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to ensure constant water supply across the city of Delhi and provide potable drinking water to each household by December 2017," he added.
