New Delhi, Wed, 30 Nov 2016 NI Wire

Supreme Court today orders National Anthem in Cinema Halls across country before a movie starts. The court further added that all audience should stand up during national Anthem and the national flag pic should appear on screen during this.

The Supreme Court was acting on a petition that alleged misuse of the anthem. The petition was filed by Shyam Narayan Chouski, who has an NGO in Bhopal.

In 1960s it was compulsory for every cinema hall to play national anthem before the start of movie in a cinema hall. It all disappeared in 1990s.

In 2003, the Congress government in Maharashtra passed an order asking for the anthem to be played before the screening of any film.
