We will build a Swachh Bharat within one generation: Modi

Mumbai, Nov 20 (IANS) As the Global Citizen India 2016 -- the first step of the nation to bring about positive changes in India to fight extreme poverty -- took place on Saturday, prioritising on clean India movement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was confident that "the day is not far when the country will be filth free".

While addressing the youth of the nation and 80,000 attendees of Global Citizen Festival India here in Mumbai MMRDA ground via a video conference, Modi said, "It is amazing to see how the nation is participating in Swachh Bharat movement and cleaning all the corners of the nation. I am convinced that we can and we will build a Swachh Bharat that is free of all forms of filth within one generation."

In his speech, he also mentioned that poverty was one of the biggest challenges for any developing country along with malnutrition, unemployment, corruption that posed challenges to grow.

The prime minister said, "We have to work towards our mission shoulder to shoulder to make it successful."

Global Citizen India is a movement brought to India by Global Citizen, a social action platform and The Global Education and Leadership Foundation (tGELF), an organisation focused on cultivating ethical, altruistic leadership to improve the state of the planet through collective action.

From Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar, Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt and many other Bollywood stars to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fednavis and the iconic English band Coldplay participated to bring people together and stand for a noble cause that celebrate humanity and fight against poverty.
