Delhi government lists action taken against polluters

New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) The Delhi government said on Friday that issued 854 challans and recovered Rs 1.61 crore as of October 26 in its campaign against violators of dust control measures.

Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain released details of the action taken by various regulatory agencies against violators responsible for air pollution in the national capital.

The minister said that for violation of dust control at construction sites, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) issued 648 challans and collected Rs 53.55 lakh, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) issued 1,026 challans and collected Rs 73.60 lakh and North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North DMC) issued 378 challans and got Rs 59.15 lakh.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) also issued 141 notices and recovered Rs 1.57 crore from violators.

Similarly, the revenue department issued 136 challans against people found indulged in burning in the open. The EDMC issued 242 challans and the North DMC 262 challans.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has banned burning of garbage, dry leaves, waste, plastic and rubber.

The NGT has directed all land owning agencies in Delhi to impose fine of Rs 5,000 on persons found burning leaves in the open and fine upto Rs 5 lakh owners and builders found not following the dust control measures.
