Kejriwal freed from detention

New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had been detained on Wednesday as he tried to meet the family of an ex-serviceman who had committed suicide over the One Rank One Pension demand, was freed in the night after hours being "detained".

Walking out a south Delhi police station where he had been taken after beindg detained by police after he tried to meet the family of a retired soldier who committed suicide, he said their struggle for implementation of the OROP would continue.

Delhi Tourism Minister and AAP leader Kapil Mishra tweeted that Kejriwal had been detained by Delhi Police when he tried to go to a police station where the dead soldier's family had been detained earlier.

Kejriwal who had earlier tried to go to the hospital, had said: "The central government is intent on goondagardi. I am the Chief Minister of Delhi. An ex-serviceman has committed suicide. Is it not my duty to meet his family?"

Kejriwal's deputy Manish Sisodia and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi were also detained - the latter twice - and let off earlier at night.

After nine hours of unexplained detention, Sisodia walked out of the Parliament Street police station at night and drove to the R.K. Puram police station in south Delhi where Kejriwal was detained along with fellow minister Gopal Rai.

A senior police officer told IANS that Kejriwal and the dead soldier's family members would also be allowed to leave soon. The officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, insisted that no one had been arrested but could not explain why the family was detained for hours at a police station.
