Lucknow, Oct 22 (IANS) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) General Secretary Satish Chandra Misra said on Saturday that the existence of Samajwadi Party (SP) -- the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh, is declining.

"BSP is number one in the state whereas SP, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are fighting for the position of number two and three," Misra said at Chandauli.

He added he read in newspapers that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav wants to form a new party.

Aditya Yadav, son of Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Shivpal Yadav, however, said Akhilesh is not forming a new party.

Akhilesh skipped a meeting of district Samajwadi Party chiefs convened in the state capital on Friday and Saturday and chose to meet them at the chief minister's residence separately.

Political temperatures soared in Lucknow on Saturday with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav calling in a meeting of Samajwadi Party (SP) legislators on Sunday.
