New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Stressing on the importance of modern technology, President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said its use would enable the government to effectively reach out to the poorest of the poor.

Inaugurating the 28th Accountants General Conference here, the President said the concept of governance was rapidly changing and leveraging technology would ensure that benefits of government schemes and programmes effectively reach the disadvantaged and financially-excluded sections of society.

Mukherjee also lauded the role of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) saying that the founding fathers of the Indian Constitution had envisaged a prominent role for public audit in our country's governance and accountability framework.

Quoting renowned scientist Albert Einstein, the President observed that "It is important not to stop questioning" and said he was happy to be present in the precincts of an institution whose job is to question.

Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee K.V. Thomas, and Comptroller and Auditor General of India Shashi Kant Sharma were also present on the occasion.
