Kolkata, Oct 18 (IANS) Trinamool Congress MP and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Avishek Banerjee and former minister Manas Bhunia were seriously injured when their car met with an accident on Durgapur Expressway in neighbouring Hooghly district on Tuesday, police said.
"The accident occurred at Ratanpur. Avishek has been shifted to a nursing home in Kolkata," an officer manning the state police control room said.
Reports said he has sustained a head injury.
"He has been admitted and is now stable. The doctors are examining him," a spokesperson of Bellevue clinic told IANS over phone.
Avishek Banerjee was returning to the city from Baharampur in Murshidabad district, where he had gone to address a party programme.
The accident occurred close to Singur when a crane carrying a milk van was hit by the first pilot car of the convoy.
"Due to the impact, Avishek's car also hit the crane, turned turtle and hit a divider. Avishek has sustained injury in the back of his head and shoulder," said Trinamool leader Becharam Manna.
Former state minister Bhunia, who joined the Trinamool recently, was in the same car as Banerjee.
