Western Army Command chief reviews preparedness on Jammu border

Jammu, Oct 14 (IANS) Indian Army's Western Command chief, Lt. Gen. Surinder Singhvisited field formations and forward positions on the India-Pakistan border in Jammu region, a defence statement said.

It said he visited field formations in Pathankot, Samba and Jammu region including forward areas, and "while reviewing the operational readiness of formations in the border areas, had detailed interactions and deliberations with the commanders and interacted with troops" and "appreciated the high state of operational readiness and high morale of the troops".

"He exhorted all troops to remain alert and operationally ready and emphasized the need to ensure foolproof security measures," said the statement.

While most of Jammu and Kashmir comes under the responsibility of the Udhampur-based Norethern Command, a part of the state in the Jammu region is under the Chandimandir-headquartered Western Command.
