We believe in 'empowerment politics', not 'appeasement politics': Naqvi

New Delhi, Oct 5 (IANS) Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday said the Narendra Modi government believes in politics of empowerment and not politics of appeasement.

As a result of empowerment politics, the incidents of communal violence have decreased significantly ever since this government has come to power, Naqvi said at an event organised here by the National Minorities Commission (NCM).

"Communal harmony is the guarantee of society's prosperity," he said pointing out that the NCM received 2,638 complaints in 2013-14, 1,995 in 2014-15, 1,974 in 2015-16 and 97 complaints till April 20 this year.

"Minorities are safer and stronger in India in comparison to any other democracy in the world. During the tenure of this government, we have worked hard to create a sense of equality among the minorities," Naqvi said.

"The entire world should fight united against the terror forces that have been misusing religion as the cover and have become the biggest threat to peace and entire humanity. There is a need to isolate terror forces and their supporters," he added.
