New Delhi, Sun, 13 Sep 2015 NI Wire

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee , under the leadership of its president Ajay Maken, today held a meeting at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, to chalk out the preparations for holding a massive Kisan Samman Rally at the Ramlila Ground on September 20, 2015. Shri Ajay Maken introduced a resolution before the meeting to thank Congress president Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice-president Shri Rahul Gandhi for winning the battle of the farmers which was unanimously passed by the thousands of Congress workers and leaders present by raising their hands.

Addressing the gathering Ajay Maken said at the initiative of Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Shri Rahul Gandhi, the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre had passed the Land Acquisition Act in 2013 which was in the best interest of the farmers.

Makan further said the BJP-led Modi Government, immediately after coming to power at the Centre, wanted to make changes in the Land Acquisition Act to favour the interest of big industrialists at the cost of the farmers, for which the BJP Government brought Ordinance thrice. But Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhi strongly fought against the Ordinance to protect the interest of the farmers inside and outside Parliament to put tremendous pressure on the BJP Government, and as a result, the Modi Government was forced to withdraw its decision to bring the Ordinance in Parliament for the fourth time.

Maken said that the Congress Party had organized a massive Kisan Rally at the Ramlila Maidan in which lakhs of farmers and farm labour from all parts of the country had attended. Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhi had then assured the farmers that the Congress party will not allow any tampering with the the Land Ordinance Act passed by the UPA Government in 2013.
