Congress opposed the land acquisition move to set up power grid at Monah Garden

New Delhi, Mon, 07 Jul 2014 NI Wire

Congress has staged a protest against the move by the BJP in collusion with the Aam Aadmi Party to scuttle the land acquisition to setup a 66 KVA power grid at Mohan Garden, warned the administration that if the designated land for establishing the power grid was not acquired, the residence of the Lt. Governor will be gheraoed, and the local people will also undertake a hunger strike, in which women and children will participate.

Congress leader and spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said the former Congress Government in Delhi had taken an historic decision by framing new rules to acquire land for setting up a 200-bed Government Hospital and a power grid at Mohan Garden in the Uttam Nagar Assembly constituency. He recalled that on 3rd March last year, at a public rally held at 9 Acre ground, then Congress Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit had made this announcement. He said the Delhi Government had also made the notification for the acquisition of land for the hospital. He said after the notification, no step was taken in the direction towards setting up the hospital.

Mukesh Sharma announced that if notification was not issued for the acquisition of land for setting up the 66KVA power grid, he would join the local people in an agitation, for which he was ready to make any kind of sacrifice. He expressed surprise that on the one hand, there was a big crisis on the power front, and on the other hand, the power grid project was being stalled. He alleged that less water was deliberately being released to the underground drinking water tank in Mohan Garden and as a result, people were thirsting for drinking water. Shri Sharma also alleged that the Delhi Jal Board had totally failed to provide drinking water tankers to the needy people, and people have to shell out heavy bribe for getting water tankers.

The maha panchayat has also decided that a community memorandum would be sent to the Lt. Governor warning that seven days time would be given to issue notification for the land acquisition, and if the notification was not issued within a week, the local people will join hands to start an agitation. It may be recalled that all the official formalities for land acquisition for the power grid had been completed, and in fact, the Power Department of the Delhi Government had paid Rs one crore, 16 lakh, 46 thousand and 971 rupees to the secretary, Land and Buildings of the Delhi Government, and only the land acquisition notification remained to be notified.
