Former general secretary of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), and Congress candidate for the last Delhi Assembly elections from Tughlakhabad Om Prakash Bidhuri has strongly condemned the BJP-ruled South Delhi MCD's demolition drive on the dwelling units of the poor people of the Sanjay Colony in the Tughlakhabad Assembly constituency in the name of widening of roads. He requested the Lt. Governor of Delhi to exercise his powers to stop the demolition drive.

Shri Bidhuri said the Sanjay Colony in the Tughlakhabad Assembly constituency was nearly 40 years old, and the demolition drive was being carried out in the name of widening the 45-foot road to 60-foot road. He said the South Delhi MCD has begun demolition of around 400 houses on either side of the road, and around 40-50 houses were demolished yesterday. And the sword of demolition was hanging over other houses too. Shri Bidhuri said when the local people were happy with the 45-foot wide road, why was the BJP-ruled South Delhi MCD demolishing the houses to widen the road to 60-feet.

Shri Bidhuri said in the Tughlakhabad Assembly segment, the MP, MLA and the Municial Councillors all belonged to the BJP, and why were they not coming to the rescue of the residents of the Sanjay Colony to stop the demolition drive, being carried out on the pretext of widening the road. He said the residents of Sanjay Colony were the supporters of the Congress Party and they had voted for the Congress candidates in the Parliamentary, Assembly and MCD elections, and their houses were being demolished because they were anti-BJP.

Shri Bidhuri appealed to Lt. Governor Dr Najeeb Jung to exercise his powers to immediately stop the demolition drive at the Sanjay Colony in the name of widening of roads, and the residents of the 40-50 houses who were demolished, should be given compensation forthwith, so that the poor people could rebuild their houses and rehabilitate their normal lives.
