MCD is not serious with unauthorized colonies issues: Congress

New Delhi, Wed, 04 Jun 2014 NI Wire

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief spokesperson and senior leader Mukesh Sharma said the 895 unauthorized colonies regularized by the Congress Government has yet again been put on the edge of sword by the BJP-ruled Central Government. Pradesh Congress termed the order by the Urban Development Ministry of the Delhi Government to extend by one more year to determine the boundaries of the unauthorized colonies as a clear evidence that the BJP was not only the enemy of those who live in unauthorized colonies, but whenever the BJP came to power, it had put hurdles in the regularization of unauthorized colonies.

Mukesh Sharma alleged that the Urban Development Ministry of the Delhi Government, at the behest of the BJP leaders, in a pre-planned manner, was trying to delay the development of these colonies through the order to determine the boundaries of the unauthorized colonies in a fresh manner. He said the Congress Party, by following the rule framed by Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1976-77, had taken an historic decision to regularize 895 unauthorized colonies. He said the truth was that the Congress Government had earmarked around Rs 2000 crore for the development of these unauthorized colonies.

Mukesh Sharma said the truth was that the BJP-ruled three MCDs were not willing to prepare the lay-out plans of these colonies. The poor people will be able to get the building plans approved only after the lay-out plan is made. He alleged that the MCD officials were taking bribes ranging from Rs 50,000 to 5 lakh from the poor people for allowing them to construct houses with the protection of the leaders in the BJP-ruled MCDs. He said due to this bribe-taking, the MCDs were not passing the lay-out plans.

Mukesh Sharma, quoting figures, said all these 895 colonies were given the final approval for regularisation only after getting no-objection certificates from the concerned Government departments, and following that, a gazette notification was also issued for the regularization of these colonies.
