In a major pipeline explosion incident, at least 14 people are feared to have been killed in the accident when state owned Gal Authority of India Limited (GAIL) pipeline exploded in Nagaram, East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. The blast took place at the early in the Friday about 5.30 a.m. when many of the villagers were still sleeping.
According to sources, the impact of the blast could be seen in the flames that leapt over 200 metres in the air. The blast created a panic among the people in the area and suddenly there was a stampede for the safe place and safety. Just after the incident the fire tender vehicle rushed to the spot and rescue operation is going on.
Meanwhile, it has been said that the accident can cause a huge loss to property as several of coconut farms. Apart from this, many residential areas, shops and buildings also come in the clutch of the massive fire.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives in the fire in a GAIL pipeline in Andhra Pradesh today. He has spoken to the Petroleum Minister, Cabinet Secretary and GAIL Chairman and asked them to ensure immediate relief at the accident site.
Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives in the GAIL pipeline fire in Andhra Pradesh today. This is in addition to the relief assistance given by the Petroleum Ministry and GAIL.
An ex-gratia relief of Rs. 50,000 has also been sanctioned for those who were seriously injured in the incident.
