East Delhi Mayor, Ms Meenakshi today launched a special ‘Sanitation-cum-cleanliness Drive’ to improve the level of cleanliness and sanitation during the monsoon season from Annar Masjid, Kishan Kunj; Shahdara (South). She was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Mr. Jai Gopal; Standing Committee Chairman Mr. B B Tyagi; and Leader of the House, Mr. Ram Narayan Dubey Municipal Commissioner, Mr. S. Kumaraswamy and senior officials of other departments of EDMC.
The Mayor, Ms. Meenakshi informed that the drive that will continue till July 5 and would emphasis on micro-level monitoring over day-to-day cleanliness of all areas, lifting of solid waste, cleanliness of public urinals, CTCs besides other issues such as taking preventive public health measures i.e. control of water and vector-borne diseases, repair and maintenance of roads, footpaths, pavements, maintenance of parks, functioning of parks, streetlights and high-mast lights.
Chairman Standing Committee, Mr B.B.Tyagi said that the 'sanitation- cum- cleaniness' drive focuses to make East Delhi clean and green. He said that the drive will include an action plan as per date-wise, ward-wise and zone-wise data. He also said the drive would also make citizens aware about sanitation and EDMC would use social, print and electronic media to seek active participation of citizens, RWAs, market associations and school children.
He further informed that fogging and spray of insecticide for prevention of the outbreak of water and vector-borne diseases, distribution of chlorine tablets in unauthorized colonies, slums etc would also be a part of this drive. Students and teachers of municipal schools would also be sensitized about cleanliness under this drive.
Leader of House, Mr. Ram Narayabn Dubey said that the drive will focus on cleanliness of drains, dhalaos, dustbins and removal of silt and garbage from open sites. An equal focus will be on maintenance of roads, removal of debris, removal of encroachments from public land, upkeep of parks, pruning of trees, removal of horticulture waste from parks, roadsides, lanes etc.
Commissioner, Mr S.Kumaraswamy said that it is for the first time that the sanitation and cleanliness drive has been launched during monsoon while staff is busy in desilting of drains, so that little more efforts can bring better results in interest of the citizens. He said that all possible efforts be made to prevent water logging and other problems which could be multipicated during monsoon.
The Additional Commissioners and heads of departments will carry regular field inspections of different areas to monitor the drive so that immediate remedial action can be taken of any irregularity is noticed.
