Mayor of North Delhi, Mr. Yogender Chandolia today welcomed the decision of Lieut. Governor to reduce 90% of sewer development charges in case of plots measuring upto 100sq. yards in colonies to be regularized. He said this demand was made to the then Chief Minister of NCT Govt. of Delhi so that the lacs of residents living in unauthorized colonies can get some relief and the process of regularization of unauthorized colonies can get some momentum in actual. It was felt that the sewer development charges are too high to be realized.
It has now been realized by the Hon’ble Lieut. Governor and he decided to reduce the same, although, it is limited to 100sq. yards plots only yet it needs to be reconsidered in case of plots beyond this limit keeping in view the situations in the unauthorized colonies. Mr. Chandolia said that the then Chief Minister did not pay attention to this demand to favour some people keeping aside the interest of the citizens of these colonies.
Mayor, Chandolia also demanded from the Hon’ble Lieut. Governor to handover the sewer management of the city to the Municipal Corporations since sewer is an integral part of the sanitation services which rests with the Municipal Corporations. He stressed upon the need saying it is an important step and need of the hour to strengthen the sanitation services of the city in the interest of the citizens. Hence, it is demanded that the sewer system be handed over to Municipal Corporations as it was prior to the 1997.
