Building on the success of Lifestyle Exhibition in April 2012, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) is holding the 2 nd edition of 'Lifestyle Pakistan' exhibition in New Delhi. FICCI in collaboration with TDAP organized a curtain raiser for the upcoming ‘Alishan Pakistan’, the Lifestyle Exhibition, here today.

The four-day exhibition is taking place at one of the largest trade fair venues in Delhi, Pragati Maidan, from September 11-14, 2014, with over 150 exhibitors of a vast array of Pakistani fashion, textiles, jewellery, accessories, home textiles, furniture, marbles and agro products.

'Aalishan Pakistan' is an initiative of TDAP to further build on the efforts of the governments of Pakistan and India to normalize trade between the two countries. It is the second showcase of top quality export products of Pakistan under one roof in India.

On the occasion, Mr. Abdul Basit, High Commissioner of Pakistan in India, said it was ironic that at the time when globalization had transformed the world, South Asian countries had lagged behind. He pointed out that SAARC intra-regional trade was just 5% of the total trade volume of these countries, whereas the European Union boasts of almost 60% intra-EU trade. ASEAN and Latin America regions were also creating more regional inter-dependence, which was helping them in fighting against poverty and illiteracy. The lifestyle exhibition would help in giving a momentum to trade between the two countries, he added.

Mr. Arvind Mehta, Joint Secretary-SAARC, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, was hopeful that soon the two countries will free themselves from the tariff and non-tariff barriers and no product will have customs duty of more than 5%. He added that the governments on both the sides were encouraging the trade bodies and business associations of their countries to engage in trade and strengthening bilateral ties. Mr. Mehta also welcomed the announcement of TDAP of making ‘Lifestyle Pakistan’ an annual event.

Mr. S M Muneer, Chief Executive, TDAP, said that Pakistan-India are continuously taking steps towards strengthening of bilateral trade as both sides understand that cooperation and collaboration in the areas of commercial and economic interests need an aggressive approach to create an enabling environment for improvement of bilateral relations.

Speaking about the 2 nd edition of ‘Lifestyle Pakistan’ exhibition, Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary, TDAP, said that the exhibition will showcase top quality of Pakistan’s textiles including high-end designer wear and lawn, fabrics, jewellery, furniture, leather, rice and engineering products. The exhibition will also set up a Pakistani food court where Pakistani cuisine will be served to the public. On the sidelines of the main exhibition, a fashion show and art exhibition will also be arranged.
