Leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party and Aam Aadmi Party met with Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The demand has arrived just after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi admitted some party members' involvement in the violence

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the party promised to demand an SIT probe into the riots in its election manifesto and was fulfilling the promise.

"I have met the LG and talked to him about SIT probe into the 1984 riots case. He is very positive towards this issue," Kejriwal said.

"The constitution of SIT and the terms of reference will be finalized in next cabinet meeting," he added.

BJP led by Harsh Vardhan also met Jung in the afternoon. "We want justice for the victims of 1984 and are demanding an SIT probe in the riots," Harsh Vardhan said after the meeting.

Akali Dal's Delhi unit president Manjit Singh G.K. told reporters that now that Rahul Gandhi has acknowledged the role of Congress leaders in the riots, he should take action against them too.

"We don't want an apology but action against the culprits in the 1984 riots. We demand an SIT probe," Manjit Singh said.

The 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which claimed the lives of almost 3000 Sikhs, were triggered by the assassination of Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 by two of her Sikh bodyguards.
