After Water, Now Kejriwal’s New Year bonanza as power relief to Delhites

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today convened the cabinet meeting in his office and decided to grant major power relief to the 82% populace of the capital. The cabinet chaired by Kejriwal decided to provide subsidy @50% of the existing tariff slabs for domestic consumers consuming upto 400 units of electricity per month w.e.f 01st January, 2014.

ccordingly, a subsidy of Rs. 1.95- per unit will be provided in the tariff slab 0 to 200 units and Rs. 2.90 per unit in the tariff slab of 201 to 400 units. As per cabinet dicision, no subsidy will be available to domestic consumers who cross the consumption limit of 400 units.

Kejriwal along with his cabinet collegues addressed media persons and informed that the decision taken by the government will provide relief to more than 28 Lakhs consumers of Delhi out of the total 34 Lakh 61 Thousand consumers i.e almost 82% consumers. The total consumption of electricity units in this category is 5437 million annually.

Kejriwal further informed that the additional requirement for Jan to March 2014 will be about 200 crores. Out of this, about Rs. 61 Crore will be paid to TPDDL. Remaning Rs. 139 Crore will be adjusted against the outstanding dues of over Rs. 4000 Crores of BSES DISCOMS to Power Companies of Delhi Government.

He said that discoms are accordingly being directed to charge reduced bills from consumers to the extent indicated above from January 2014 onwards. The consumer subsidy meant for transferring to BSES DISCOMS i.e BRPL & BYPL will be directly transferred to IPGCL/PPCL and DTL i.e the government generation and transmission companies to which these DISCOMS owe large panding dues as on date.

He said that the government will achieve two objectives with one decision-i.e lowring of tariff as well as securing the pending dues of IPGCL/PPCL and DTL and will be a win-win situation for both the consumers of Delhi as well as Delhi Government PSUs.
