Narasingha Mishra elected Congress leader in Odisha assembly

Bhubaneswar, June 11 (IANS) Former law minister Narasingha Mishra was Wednesday unanimously elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the Odisha assembly, a senior party leader said here.

The newly-elected legislators of the party met here and unanimously elected Mishra, party observer for the state and former union minister Ajay Maken told reporters.

The 73-year-old Mishra, who won the 2014 assembly election from Bolangir constituency is known for his excellent debating skills.

The four-time legislator served as deputy leader of opposition in the assembly (2004-2009).

A former law minister of the state in the Biju Patnaik cabinet (1990-1995), Mishra is currently a part-time member of the Law Commission of India.

The Congress has 16 members in the newly constituted 147-seat assembly.
