BJP team to appraise centre over Bengal attacks

Kolkata, May 31 (IANS) Accusing Mamata Banerjee of sponsoring anarchy in West Bengal, the BJP Saturday said it would appraise the central government over the attacks on its party activists allegedly by the ruling Trinamool Congress.

A five-member team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by party vice presidents S.S. Ahluwalia and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Saturday visited Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district, where over two dozen party workers were injured after they were "fired upon by Trinamool patronised goons".

The team also visited the injured activists admitted to the SSKM Hospital and submitted a deputation to the chief secretary at the state secretariat.

Alleging police to be hand in glove with the perpetrators, the BJP delegation said the matter would be probed by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes.

"Law and order has completely collapsed in Bengal. Alarmed at the rise of BJP in Bengal, the Trinamool has unleashed a reign of terror on our activists and supporters.

"The incidents of violence are continuing unabated. We will submit our report to the prime minister, home minister as well as our party president," said Meenakshi Lekhi, an MP and a member of the delegation.

"The chief minister (Banerjee) is so much concerned about Bangladeshi infiltrators but has hatred for her own people, the people of her state, her country," said Lekhi.

With most of the victims belonging to the SC/ST community, Ahluwalia said the team would also urge the National Commission for SCs and STs to probe the mater.

Accusing the police and administration to be involved in the attack, Naqvi said there was state sponsored anarchy in Bengal.

"There is state sponsored anarchy in Bengal. The whole country is concerned by this Mamata Banerjee patronised anarchy. The attack is no more a political issue rather an issue involving shameless use of constitutional machinery for political gains," said Naqvi.

"The condition in the state is now worse than what was during the (erstwhile) Left Front government. In fact, goons who were earlier part of the Left now have joined the Trinamool and its government," he added.

Concerned over the growing number of attacks on its party workers in Bengal, BJP general secretary Jagat Prakash Nadda Thursday named the five-member team.
